Fish are Starting to Move Shallow

Austin Fishing Guide

Lake Travis is starting to show off and give up a few nice bass! The bass are starting to move up and hang out in a little shallower water than they have been. Typical summertime patterns dictate you fish deep. Lake Travis is certainly no exception to the rule, in fact I catch almost all of my fish this time of year offshore.

These last couple trips have been a little different and I think fall is trying to peak its head out. The water is still very warm and the day time temps are hot, but I have had some success finding fish in anywhere between 4-10 feet of water. The photos in this post were all taken at one community hole on the lake, however we caught quite a few fish all over the lake. We mostly fished the mid section and upper end of Lake Travis. Texas rigged plastics in brush, and drop shots around rock were the ticket.

My clients picked up the drop shot quick and had a great time! In terms of baits used, its just your standard Lake Travis colors, but they do seem to prefer them presented slowly, so keep that in mind. The bass fishing on Lake Travis seems to be heating up again and I am excited for the fall bite!
