Lake Travis is producing some big ones!

June 9, 2019

I have been super busy this week guiding, so I plan to catch up on reports Monday when I have some down time.

Yesterday I had a fun trip with Mike and his young son Drew.

If you get to the lake early enough you can still get on a topwater bite or a swimbait bite on the schoolers. We hit one area and had a few bites that got off, but not the bite I wanted. We kept moving and looking for more fish.

We also pulled up on an area that produced some fish, but I could tell they were chasing tiny fry. Several of the schoolers were keying in on tiny tiny bait fish. My advice would be to downsize your bait and fish it a little faster.

I believe the lake is starting to make that spring transition to a full on Summer pattern. I had another trip today and we were catching more fish out deep.

Since the bite was a little slower than I liked we stayed out a little bit longer. As you know it only takes one fish to make the trip! We pulled up on a flat that is adjacent to some smaller points and a few rock piles. Not a big main lake point.

I set Mike up with a football jig with a rage craw trailer... sure enough after a couple missed hits... BAM!

The fish jumped and shook her head to throw the bait, but Mike hammered her with the hook set and she wasn't getting off. We got her in the net and she went 5.15 LBS. Such a fun way to end the day!

If you are considering hiring an Austin fishing guide to get you out on Lake Travis, give me a shout! The fishing is good and now is the time we can start fishing deep.
