Ladies Night!

If you're local to Austin you know how great the weather was last weekend... not! We had quite a bit of rain (not enough sadly) and some ugly weather. I had a group of 3 female anglers that were tougher than most men who come fishing with me! I get clients who cancel due to the slightest change of a sprinkle... not this group!

For the first time in months I had to break out my Bass Pro 100 MPH suit! We started the trip at 6:30PM but ended up waiting in the car until 7:30PM waiting for the rain to let up, as the visibility was so poor it wasn't safe to be out on the lake.

We started out fishing near the dam where there are a few brush piles and rock piles. We caught one largemouth and had quite a few bites. Learning how to detect the difference between a rock, a snag, and a bite can be tough, so needless to say we missed a few. After this we ran up to Sandy Creek and checked a few of my bluegill spots! We caught tons of catfish and Bluegill, which I saved for bait.

Once it got dark we headed back down to the other end of the lake and started looking for Striper. The Striper have been easy enough to find, but tough to get biting. Banging on the boat can help a lot, but ultimately it takes a school thats actively feeding. Despite the rain picking back up and a little wind moving in, we managed three nice Striper, one for each of the girls!

The forecast for the Striper bite looks promising later this week! If you have been thinking about hiring a fishing guide for Lake Travis, give me a shout! I am the only guide offering night trips for Striper too! They are the hardest fighting fish in the lake, and are great table fare!
